Jordan Nybakke graduated Naval basic military training

U.S Navy Airman Apprentice Jordan M. Nybakke graduated from Naval basic military training at Naval Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill., in February 2019. Nybakke completed an eight-week intensive program that included Naval core values, military training, discipline, studies, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Nybakke graduated section leader in his division. Nybakke is the son of proud parents Nathan and Alma Nybakke of Paso Robles, brother of Staff Sergeant Nathan Jr., Jacob, and Jovon Nybakke and grandson of Ms. Judy Nybakke of Minnesota. Patricia (Thew) Nash-Boulden will celebrate her 100th birthday Nov. 17, 2018. Pat was born in Pasadena, one week after WW1 ended. She grew up in Altadena, Calif. during The Great Depression and attended a one-room schoolhouse in Big Bear and Ojai. She attended high school in Santa Barbara. Patricia married Stephen Nash-Boulden in 1937. Together, Pat and Steve were residents of Atascadero (1948-1997). She currently resides in Santa Maria.... more

Local military member to retire after 25 years

ATASCADERO — Steve Houghton, who was raised in Atascadero, will retire in November of this year after humbly serving 25 years in the United States Air Force. Since August 2013, he has maintained the title of Squadron Superintendent where he oversees and manages criminal, fraud, and counterintelligence operations. Over the past 17 years, Steve has held multiple positions with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. Throughout his career, he has both led and performed hands-on investigative work to protect military personnel and resources as well as the general public. During this time, he completed a tour of duty in South Korea and Iraq where he collected and analyzed information to decrease the threat posed by domestic and foreign enemies. In addition to his many professional achievements, Steve also holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.... more

Jane Douglass, a 1993 graduate of Atascadero High School, was married Aug. 4 in Carbondale, Colo. to James Johnston Funsten IV. The wedding took place on the grounds of the historic Missouri Heights Schoolhouse, overlooking the Roaring Fork Valley and the mountains beyond. Val Douglass, Jane’s sister, was the matron of honor. Junior attendants were Jim’s eight-year-old son, Max and Val’s nine-year-old daughter Zella and seven-year-old son, Zach.
