3rd Annual Showdown Cornhole Tournament set for Sept. 22

ATASCADERO — The 3rd Annual Atascadero Kiwanis and Knights of Columbus Showdown Cornhole Tournament will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Sunken Gardens in Atascadero.

With 64 teams in last year’s tournament, it was the biggest tournament on the Central Coast, according to organizers. This year’s tournament is expected to have over 100 teams  playing in the grass at Sunken Gardens.

The Atascadero High School Greybots, Robotics Team has been chosen to receive the proceeds from this year’s tournament.  The Kiwanis and Knights chose the Greybots, because a major focus of both clubs is to help the youth and youth programs in the community.

If you like to play Cornhole, the tournament is a nine-game minimum, with over $3,000 in prize money with a sold out event.

There will be a “Long Shot” contest with $100 in prize money and an “Air Mail Shoot Out” for $100.

Two Giant Jengas will be set up for anyone wishing to test their Jenga skills in a big way.

A water balloon toss will also be part of the fun.

Not playing in the tournament but want to play, additional boards will be set up for those wanting to have some Cornhole fun.  You might even be able to get a chance to challenge the Greybots Cornhole playing Robot. Demonstrations will be going on during the tournament.

If you enjoy a good raffle with lots of great items, the North County Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program will also be there with items that you’ll want.  NCASP is a great volunteer non-profit program on the Central Coast.

You can sponsor a court for this year’s tournament at two levels, $100 or $200 with the net proceed going to the Greybots. You get an 18 inch-by-24 inch business sign posted at a court for $100, or kick it up and sponsor a team for $200 and get your sign posted, a team, and lunch.

Last year’s tournament “sold out,” so if you’d like to get in this year’s event, have some fun, and help out some great programs, you can register at the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce, or online at Eventbrite.com at Showdown Cornhole.  For more information,  email Mike at [email protected]
