Bonnie Mae Journey passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, one day before her 82nd birthday at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Durango, Colo., on April 19, 1936, to Daniel and Mary Wolff, the family migrated to Whitley Gardens, where she attended grade school, and then to Paso Robles, graduating from Paso Robles High School in 1954.
She married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Shetler, and after 14 years of marriage she separated and moved to Paso Robles with her three children. She then attended Cal Poly and earned a bachelor of science degree in social science.
Bonnie began her career at Atascadero State Hospital and during that time, she met and married the love of her life, William Journey. She retired in 1992 and went on to work with her son Darren at Castlerock Development.
She enjoyed her grandchildren and raised her oldest granddaughter Bonnie from the age of 12. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and reading. She also loved the beach. When she was younger, she loved scuba-diving, bowling, and western dancing.
Bonnie was a special person, a kind soul with a giant heart and an incredible mother. All of those that were fortunate enough to meet Bonnie believed she was truly an angel. Her love for others and the constant gifts she provided were always unconditional.
Bonnie is survived by three children; Kim Strongheart of Atascadero, Darren Shetler of San Luis Obispo, and a step-daughter, Laurie Jackson of Paso Robles. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Bonnie Yanez, Kelsey Shetler, and Matthew Shetler; a step-grandson, Tanner, and a great-grandchild, Alexandria.
