Charley Raymond Schmitz

Charley Raymond Schmitz, 77, a long time resident and excavator of Paso Robles, passed away suddenly on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017. Charley was born Nov. 22, 1940 in Bakersfield to Marie and Burl Schmitz. Charley was one of four children. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim Schmitz (Modesto), oldest brother John Schmitz (Ripon) and leaves behind sister Beverly Webster of Atascadero, wife Joanne; sons Mike, Clarence and will forever be missed by his youngest son Jim, wife Cindy and grandchildren; Charlie, Jamie, James, Julie and Johnny Schmitz.

Charley touched the lives of many people near and far throughout his lifetime and always left a memorable impression, whether it be a bear hug, a grin or his contagious laugh. His business, Charley Schmitz Excavating, was known countywide. His smile, humor and strong handshake were his trademarks all the way until the end. If you ever had the chance to talk with him, you'd know he was the best storyteller!
