PASO ROBLES — A man was hit Thursday morning by a vehicle as he tried to cross Highway 101 near the 13th Street bridge in Paso Robles, the California Highway Patrol reported. The vehicle did not stop and has not notified law enforcement.
The man later identified as Nathaniel J. Weatherly, 22, died at the scene. Weatherly’s last known residence was San Miguel, but was believed to be homeless.
At approximately 5 a.m., Weatherly was attempting to walk or run across the freeway when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that was driving southbound on Highway 101. Southbound US 101 was closed and traffic was diverted off at 17th Street in Paso Robles, to allow the CHP to investigate the collision scene.
The traffic on northbound Highway 101 was not impacted by this collision or subsequent investigation. Southbound Highway 101 was reopened at 7:20 a.m.
