Studios on the Park is hosting "Taking The Weird and Making It Great," a Creative Chat with famed film and television producer David Alpert, known for his many hits including AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” BBC’s “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” and “American Ultra,” starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart.
The first session of Studios on the Park’s chat series will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 26 at 1130 Pine St., Paso Robles. It is sponsored by JUSTIN Winery, American Riviera Bank, Hotel Cheval and Somm’s Kitchen.
Gail Cayetano Classick, a Studios on the Park Board member, is leading the Creative Chats. She says the series is a natural fit for Studios on the Park since it is a gathering place and hub of creativity in the community.
“We thought what better way to gather people together than through a Creative Chats speakers series that highlights creatives from around the country,” Cayetano said. “Not only are we exposing our great community to these speakers who are leading entrepreneurs, activists, and artists, but we are also able to showcase to these speakers what makes the Central Coast so special.”
Alpert is expected to share the ups and downs of breaking barriers within the confines of Hollywood by creating strategic partnerships to elevate intellectual properties for creators.
Between the collaborations he facilitates among not just film and television, but also comics, merchandise, toys, books, video games and more, Alpert has utilized his creativity to build revenue streams and relationships that have led him to currently be one of the most successful entertainment executives across mediums.
Studios, understandably, is excited to have Alpert open the series, which will bring well-known business leaders, artists, activists and more from around the U.S. to Paso Robles wine country, to discuss creativity and inspiration on their own terms.
“His list of credits
“There’s so much that our local business community can learn from his business practices,” she said.
Alpert will be in conversation with local favorite Janet Wallace, Studios on the Park Board president,
Wallace received the inaugural Rising Star Award from the Women Lawyer’s Association of SLO.
She is also the recipient of the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association's Frank Pentangelo Award. Wallace is a licensed foster parent and, based on that work, was named a "Hands on Hero" by the County of San Luis Obispo's First 5 Coalition.
Included in the $20 ticket price is a post-chat wine reception with complimentary pours of a sample of wines along with a cheese and charcuterie at JUSTIN Downtown Tasting Room.
A separate, private dinner party celebration with Alpert follows at Somm's Kitchen — 14 guests only, $100 per person. To make your reservation, call 805-369-2344 or visit www.exploretock.com/somms-kitchen/.
Studios on the Park is working toward having more Creative Chats over the course of the year.
“Our goal is to have a Creative Chats session once a season,” Cayetano said. “We’d like it to be consistent enough that the community can depend on one happening again in just a few months. We know that attending an inspiring talk like this can motivate attendees to elevate their creativity, do more in their business, or look at life in a new perspective, so we’d like to continue to feed into the stimulation.”
Plans for the next one featuring Scott Patterson, who leads a double life as the founder of Scotty P’s Big Mug Coffee as well as being an acclaimed actor, are already underway. Many will recognize Patterson from his leading role as Luke in “Gilmore Girls.” The date will be released soon.
