Dorothy Holzer (nee Stonebarger) passed away on July 22, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was 93.
Dorothy was born on February 4, 1924 in Los Olivos, to Harvey and Nellie Stonebarger. She met her love and life partner, Louie Holzer, when they were just eight years old, and the two married in 1942. Together, they raised three boys in Los Olivos. Dorothy spent her early career working with Louie at the Santa Barbara County Farm Bureau, where she kept and managed records for the dairy cows in the area. She later spent more than 20 years supervising housekeeping services at the Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara.
Dorothy and Louie retired to Heritage Ranch, Paso Robles in 1989. The two of them spent many happy days traveling around California in their RV. A particular favorite was the annual Death Valley 49ers’ Fiddling & Picking contest. Dorothy also sang in the Heritage Ranch church choir, volunteered at the senior center library, and enjoyed line dancing with Louie and their friends. Dorothy’s optimistic nature was contagious and her love for her family and friends was unconditional. She always wore a smile, right down to her last breath.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, David (Karen) of Campbell, and Larry (Lynn) Holzer of Vallejo; her daughter-in-law, Sharon Holzer Uellner; four grandchildren, Jeff Holzer (Jennifer), Danielle Holzer, Wendy Holzer Shewmaker (Mark) and Michael Holzer (Joyce); and eight great-grandchildren, Christopher Holzer and Angelina Bushnell, Abigail and Oliver Shewmaker, and Jake, Matt, and Mia Holzer. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Louie Holzer, and her son, Robert Holzer.
Dorothy will be cremated and buried with her husband at Oak Hill Cemetery in Ballard, Calif. A memorial service is planned for Sunday, February 4, 2018. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dorothy’s life.
