TEMPLETON — The Templeton Eagles’ perfect season has ended in the CIF Division 5 semifinals at the hands of JW North High School. The stadium at Vineyard Elementary School was absolutely packed Tuesday afternoon. There was barely a place to stand in the outfield let alone a seat in the stands, and every fan stayed until the very last out was recorded and the girls on the team were praised for their tremendous effort this season.
It was a very strange game for Templeton. The Eagles began making mistakes they haven't made all season: dropped balls, missed assignments, missed spots and they just couldn't right the ship. Altogether Templeton committed six errors on the afternoon and had trouble getting out of innings.
The Huskies scored two runs in the third on a stand-up triple and two more in the fourth via a two-run home run. Daugherty led off the bottom half of the fourth inning and angrily took the first pitch she saw over the left field fence for a solo shot. Kathlene Cline also added a solo shot of her own in the bottom of the seventh but it was too little too late and the Eagles lost 3-8.
More on this story coming later.
