Edward Clifton "Pete" Darley

Edward Clifton "Pete" Darley, 84, died April 16, 2019, at Frederick, Md., near his home in Mt. Airy.
Pete was born in San Saba, Texas, on March 9, 1935, to his loving parents Voyd Lee and Marion Edward "Pete" Darley. He was a graduate of Thomas A. Edison High School in San Antonio, Texas, where he played trumpet in the school's band.
Pete married the love of his life, Barbara Frances Jones, in 1958. They were married forty-two years, until her death in 2001. Pete and Barbara were devoted to each other and were proud of their children, Jaynie and Bill.
In his younger years, Pete was an avid race car driver, winning multiple championships. He loved his Austin Healey, MG, classic Mustang, and NASCAR.
He was a U.S. Army Reserve veteran, Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star, Atascadero Chapter No. 344, and a member of the Free and Accepted Masons since 1962, including the Thaddeus Sherman Lodge No. 196 in Paso Robles.
Except for a few years as owner of a Mac Tools franchise in Bakersfield, Pete enjoyed a long career in the grocery industry. After his job as produce manager at Ralph's in Los Angeles, he became a sales rep for Kraft Foods. A promotion prompted a move to San Luis Obispo in 1966, followed by relocation to Atascadero in 1974. Pete later went on to work for Everfresh, Scolari's, and Foster Farms, from which he retired in 2001.
In 2010, Pete moved to the East Coast, living for a few years near his son in Buford, Ga., and more recently with his daughter in Mt. Airy, Md.
Pete was affable and loving. He was also enjoyed golf and was an avid walker. He will be fondly remembered by many he befriended and chatted with during his daily walks around Atascadero Lake and favorite spots in Georgia and Maryland. He loved hitting the road too, visiting relatives in Texas and California annually.
Pete loved his family deeply. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, his son Bill, his parents, and mother-in-law Goldie Stadler of Atascadero. He is survived by his daughter Jayne Tynan (Bob), his grandchildren Jeffrey Ballard, Jr., Chelsea Tynan, and Brendan Tynan, all of Mt. Airy, Md., his sister Sharon Castelan (Gary) of Tehachapi, Calif., and sister-in-law Vickie Rabourn (Jim) of Atascadero, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His ashes will be interred with his wife, son, and his son's dog Scooby at Pine Mountain Cemetery in Atascadero next to his mother-in-law. The ceremony will be private.
