Fatal collision on Cuesta Grade


Last night’s crash kills two passengers

SAN LUIS OBISPO – A 21-year-old male and 20-year-old female from Fresno died Tuesday, Aug. 29 at approximately 10:56 p.m., after a fatal traffic collision on southbound Highway 101, south of TV Tower Road. According to information provided by the California Highway Patrol, Robert Dave Jones II, 19, of Fresno was driving a 2007 Toyota Scion, when he executed an unsafe turning movement to the right due to alleged intoxication. The Scion traveled up a steep embankment west of the southbound lanes. Upon coming back down onto the roadway, both rear passengers, who were not wearing seat belts, were ejected from the car, sustaining fatal injuries. Jones and passenger Cynthia Rendon, 20, of Fresno, were transported to Sierra Vista Hospital with major and minor injuries, respectively. The investigation is ongoing. Victim’s identities will be released after notification of next of kin.
