ATASCADERO — A fire caused extensive damages to a home on the 7800 block of Curbaril Avenue Wednesday evening.
A contractor working on the home reported the fire around 5:30 p.m. according to Atascadero Fire Chief Casey Bryson, who said the home is currently undergoing renovations and doesn’t contain any belongings or furnishings.
According to Bryson, the fire was confined to the spaces between the floors and in the walls. Firefighters were still working to mop up hotspots around the third-floor fireplace at 6:30 p.m.
“The fire traveled up the wall spaces up to the second floor,” Bryson said. “Basically, we’ve got spaces between the first and second floor in that flooring that has hidden spaces and we’re trying to get it all out.”
Bryson said that firefighters had to cut into the first and the second floor and into walls to get to the fire.
“There wasn’t really anything in there to burn outside of the walls, so it was confined to the building itself,” he said.
As to the cause of the fire, Bryson said, “we’ll call it under investigation right now, but they did have a fire in the fireplace at the time.”
Two fire engines from the Atascadero Fire Department responded to the fire along with one engine from Templeton Fire Department, one from the Paso Robles Fire Department, one from Cal Fire, one from Atascadero State Hospital, an ambulance from San Luis Ambulance Service, a battalion chief from Cal Fire and multiple police units.
