CRESTON — Several small fires broke out in the afternoon along Creston Road on Sunday, Sept. 2, according to Cal Fire San Luis Obispo.
One of the fires at Creston and Neal Springs Road threatened houses and homes had to be evacuated. One vacant and abandoned home was fully involved in the blaze and destroyed, according to Chris Elms with Cal Fire SLO.
“Engine companies were very quick to mitigate the threat to the houses,” Elms said.
The fire was contained later in the evening before 8 p.m. and evacuated residents from the area were let allowed back into the home.
In the end, only one structure was destroyed from a total of three fires, totaling 47 acres. Ten engines, a water tender, two bulldozers, one helicopter, two air tankers, and one air tactical plane were used to fight the fires all along Creston Road.
There were reports on social media and to the fire department that the fire was could have been caused by a vehicle or a trailer, but those reports have not been confirmed by the investigator and the cause remains under investigation.
“Both the grass and the wind contributed to the rapid spread of the fire,” Elms said.
