ATASCADERO — A barbecue in a bag fundraiser has been set for Friday, March 29, to honor Atascadero Kiwanis Club member Col. Bill Hatch.
The purpose of the fundraiser is to defray the costs of extraordinary medical expenses incurred by the Hatches.
Hatch is a past Kiwanis Club director, president and even the club’s candidate in a Dancing With Our Stars fundraiser. He has chaired the club’s nominating committee for a number of years.
Col. Hatch is one of only two regular U.S. Army officers to command Camp Roberts. Several months ago he was the guest speaker at the Estrella Warbirds monthly dinner meeting where he talked about his career as a commissioned officer. He shared stories of his army career punctuated with large screen photos.
Tickets for the meal, which includes tri-tip, salad and garlic bread, cost $40.
This event is being co-sponsored by the Faces of Freedom Veterans Memorial. In fact, the event is being held at the memorial site located at the corner of Portola Road and Morro Road. Col. Hatch was a prime leader in the design and eventual construction of the Faces of Freedom Memorial and is past chairman of the veteran’s association.
In addition to getting tickets from Kiwanians, tickets are available at CarQuest, 7475 El Camino Real, Glenn’s Repair and Rental, 5025 El Camino Real, or by calling any of the three following numbers: 805-423-3465, 805-610-7229 or 805-233-1114.
