Ginnie May Maurer (Virginia May Lilley)

Loving mother, wife, nana, great-grandmother, and friend, who loved to read, quilt, travel, and volunteer. She will be missed. She was born on Nov. 28, 1937, in Union City, Pa., and died Nov. 26, 2017 in Templeton.

She is preceded in death by her husband James M. Maurer, parents Lenore and Park Lilley, son Gregory Deogard, two brothers, Jim and Joe Lilley, and Aunt Bess Chundrlek.

She is survived by daughters Belinda (Deogard) Privett, LuAnn Deogard, son-in-law James Privett, granddaughters Amber (Deogard) Calverly, Veronica Privett, Rachel Privett, Valerie Deogard, daughter-in-law Amy Deogard, grandson-in-law Keith Calverly, great-grandchildren Austin and Aurora Calverly.

Ginnie was born in Union City, Pa. and raised her family in Corry, Pa. where she worked for Raymond Springs. In 1970 she followed her Aunt Bess Lilley Chundrlek to Templeton and lived in Paso Robles where she worked for a land development company in Lake Nacimiento. The family moved to Torrance in 1973 and she was employed at Cosmodyne then TRW for the next 17 years. Before leaving TRW she earned her nursing degree from El Camino College and worked for Atascadero State Hospital as a nurse.

Ginnie and her husband Jim built a beautiful house on their ranch property in Templeton and lived there until Jim’s death in August 2012. While living at the ranch, Ginnie was employed by the Atascadero State Hospital. She worked at the hospital for more than five years before retiring.

Ginnie enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, quilting, tile painting, crossword puzzles, and reading. She loved to garden, cook, and travel. She was passionate about her animals and had many wonderful pets throughout her life.

Ginnie was devoted to her friends and family and she volunteered her time to many special causes. In her honor, donations can be made to animal shelters.

A celebration of life gathering will be held on June 2, 2018, at her residence in Atascadero.
