ATASCADERO — Atascadero’s oldest surviving retail business, Glenn’s Repair & Rental, was honored at a City Council meeting Tuesday, marking its 50th anniversary of business in the same location at 5025 El Camino Real.

Glenn’s Repair received a standing ovation after O’Malley read the proclamation during Tuesday’s meeting. Owner Geoff Auslen and his wife Kate were on hand to receive a copy of the proclamation and pose for a photo with the City Council.
“It definitely helps to have a friendly City that supports business in this town and going forward, I hope that continues for another 50 years,” Auslen said. “It makes a big difference when you can pick up the phone and get ahold of public works or get ahold of anybody you need to and run things by the planning office or whatever to make sure you’re still in compliance. It helps a lot. It’s not just about the business or the people who patronize the business, it’s about the hole surrounding management of the city, how
Auslen gave much of the credit for the business’s success to his wife Kate, calling her “the brains behind the operation,” and saying that it was her that got the business involved in so many community projects.
“She keeps me in check, she keeps me in line,” Auslen said.
