ATASCADERO — The Atascadero Girls Golf team hosted the Paso Robles Bearcats to their home course, Chalk Mountain Golf Course, Tuesday for a dual meet. The Greyhounds defeated the Bearcats by 45 strokes winning 254-299. Once again, Freshman Katie Burson led the way for the Greyhounds, this time to set her personal record in the process. Burson finished the day shooting a 36, one over par for the front nine at Chalk Mountain, and finishing 15 strokes lower than the next closest competitor.
According to the numbers released Wednesday morning, Burson is currently the fourth-ranked golfer in PAC 8 and is set to play in the number one group in League Finals at the end of the season. Burson is hitting her stride at the perfect time and will have a tremendous advantage on the rest of the field at League Finals this season because it will be played at her home course, where she just set her personal best and practices every day. Burson will also get to size up her opponents this Thursday as she will play in group one when the Greyhounds travel to Black Lake Golf Course for their PAC 8 Tournament.
The next three golfers for the Greyhounds all shot the exact same score Tuesday. Ashlynn Brookshire, Julia Smith, and Kaitlyn Ramos all finished the day with a 53, while Alyssa Melendez recorded a 59. Atascadero’s number two golfer Abby Hurst had her score thrown out shooting a 60. Early last week Hurst broke her driver warming up for a match and has been out of sync since as she tries to find another club that she feels comfortable with.
PAC 8 League Finals will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 18 and Atascadero will have their final home dual on October 16.
