Golf wins back-to-back

Burson medals in both

ATASCADERO — The Atascadero girls golf team traveled to Morro Bay on Monday this week for a dual match  and hosted a dual on Tuesday against St. Joseph High School. The Greyhounds won both matches this week, playing the first one at Morro Bay Golf Course and the second one at Chalk Mountain Golf Course. Katie Burson led Atascadero in both matches and shot a 39 at both courses. The Greyhounds beat the Pirates by 55 stokes Monday with each girl on the Atascadero team shooting the same or lower score than the lowest score recorded from Morro Bay, a 57. Abby Hurst ended her day shooting a 52, Ashlyn Brookshire shot a 54, Alyssa Melendez a 56 and Julia Smith a 57. Atascadero won the dual 258-313.

The Greyhounds continued their dominance on Tuesday winning this time by 35 strokes. Burson again had the low round of the afternoon for either team, finishing 11 stroke lower than anyone on the course with another 39. Brookshire had the second lowest round for the Hounds with a 50, followed by Smith with a 52 and a pair of 58’s by Hurst and Melendez. According to head coach Kara Ferrell the Hounds are now 3-4 in dual meets, and have finished fourth in every single mini this year. The Hounds will host their bitter rival, Paso Robles, this coming Tuesday at Chalk Mountain as they look to pull even in dual meets this season.
