Greyhounds dominate in the pool

SAN LUIS OBISPO — The Atascadero Greyhounds girls water polo team is off to its best start in the past three years according to Head Coach Jon Conrad. On the season, the Greyhounds are 6-2 overall and are now 1-0 in league after they dismantled San Luis Obispo Tuesday.

Last weekend the girls participated in a tournament in the Thousand Oaks area and went 3-2. It was a great tournament for the Greyhounds despite the two losses because they were able to play all five games in a full-sized pool. Atascadero played in a full-sized pool again Tuesday and looked completely dominant.

Five different Greyhounds scored at least three goals on Tuesday. Evy Cooper, Ali Marshall, Summer Tietji, Keara Kaczmarek and Ally Wright each scored three times in the 22-1 victory, and even goalie Tina Bell scored. Bell has an extraordinarily strong and accurate arm and has scored five times from her own goal this season.

Wright helped get the Greyhounds off to a good start by playing suffocating defense which led to several fast breaks. Atascadero was up 4-0 early and never looked back.

Wednesday the Hounds faced Cabrillo and won again, this time 8-6. Evy Cooper and Brooke Story led the team offensively scoring two goals each while Bell registered 12 saves and seven steals.
