Greyhounds win Brug Invitational

SANTA MARGARITA —  The Atascadero Greyhounds Cross-Country team headed to Santa Margarita Lake for the Brug Invitational, sponsored by the Santa Margarita Lions Club on Saturday. Both the Greyhounds boys varsity and girls varsity had strong showings with each finishing in the top three.

The boys varsity took first place in the meet and were led by Max Bontenbal and Jonathan Dolan. Bontenbal finished second overall with a time of 17:35 followed by his teammate, Dolan, who finished third overall crossing the finish line with a time a time of 17:41. The boys had four runners finish in the top 11 and five finish inside the top 20. Xavier Gonzales finished seventh with a time of 18:12, Austin Erb finished eleventh with a time of 18:27 and Jesse Willis finished seventeenth with a time of 19:08.

The girls varsity finished in third place at the invitational and were led by Drew Daner who finished tenth overall with a time of 22:34. Marli Watt finished second for the girls, coming in twelfth overall with a time of 22:39 and Claire Ramsey (in her first varsity race) finished fourteenth with a time of 22:13. While the girls varsity didn't land a runner inside the top 10, they had seven runners finish between tenth place and twenty-fifth overall.

Nathan Mueller finished first for the Greyhounds Boys Junior Varsity (JV) with a time of 20:51, followed by Chris Murphy (20:58), Mike Murach (21:28), and Tyson Fishcer (22:16).

On the ladies side, Alexis Moore finished first for the Greyhounds JV with a time of 25:25, Sierra Nunes finished second for the Hounds with a time of 25:50, followed by Bella Otter with a time of 26:07.

The Greyhounds Varsity Cross-Country team will head to Stanford this Saturday for their next meet.
