James “Jim” Gallagher

James “Jim” Gallagher passed away June 8, 2018, at the age of 75, in his Santa Margarita home with his wife, Jill by his side. Jim enjoyed his childhood growing up as one of four children born to John and Kathryn “Katie” Gallagher in Napa, Calif. He graduated from Napa High School in 1960. After High School, Jim joined the United States Marine Corps. Jim graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1972 with a degree in Industrial Technology. After more than 10 years working for Hayward Lumber Company in Morro Bay, Jim started his own construction company. He built and remodeled homes and businesses mostly in San Luis Obispo County until his retirement.
Jim loved dirt bike riding, hiking, fishing, camping, gardening, golf and working on his ranch with his wife. Jim felt it was important to volunteer in his community, through various Santa Margarita service clubs and events, including the Lions Club of Santa Margarita, Days of the Dons Celebrations and the Santa Margarita Wildflower Festival.
Jim leaves behind Jill, his wife of 35 years; his daughter Kimberly Carlton and husband Mike and two grandchildren; sister Pat Gerard and husband Ron; brother Dennis Gallagher and wife Linda; and many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother John “JJ” Gallagher.
