Los Angeles man dies in Paso Robles plane crash

PASO ROBLES — A plane crash on the outskirts of Paso Robles has left one man dead.

Deputies with the San Luis Obispo Sheriff's Department responded to reports of a plane crash on the 8300 block of Highway 46 at approximately 9:10 a.m. Sunday morning and found a replica WWI-era bi-plane crashed in a field. They found the plane's sole occupant, 54-year-old pilot Javier Fernando Arango, of Los Angeles, dead at the scene.

The plane had taken off a few minutes earlier from a private airstrip a few miles away before crashing in the field.

The sheriff's office is currently conducting an investigation of the death and representatives from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are en route to conduct their own investigation of the scene.

This story will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
