Friends of the Charles Paddock Zoo are looking for Summer Camp Sponsors for the 2019 program at the Zoo. Summer Camp is one of the best-attended educational programs at the Zoo. Each week kids have an opportunity to meet animals, learn about all things zoo and make new friends all while having great fun. You can help families in need by providing the opportunity for a child to attend the camp.

The CPZ Friends have partnered with Community Action Partnership of SLO County (CAPSLO), a local social services organization that assists families in need. CAPSLO will select the children who are eligible to receive your sponsorship. This partnership will guarantee that the recipient is from a low-income family and without the sponsorship, would not be able to attend the camp.

As a sponsor, you will receive your name added to the Friends and Sponsors list on the website, social media shout-outs on Facebook, and your name or business name included in press coverage of the camp and sponsorship program.

Friends of the Charles Paddock Zoo is a nonprofit and all donations to the organization are fully tax-deductible. For more information, contact Kelsey Hopper at 805-470-3184 or email at [email protected]

With the 4th of July just around the corner, it’s not too early to make plans for the day. To help make it special, the Rotary Club of Templeton has been gearing up to provide you with one of the best “hometown parades” in SLO County!

The club is looking for sponsors of the parade. Contact Wendy Dow at 805-400-8378 to sign up. For parade applications, go online at, or pick up an application at the Templeton Community Services District office across from the Templeton Park.

The theme is easy since we celebrate America on that day, so put on your “float” hats and come up with an award-winning entry! I will have more on this great event as we get closer.

On July 4, after celebrating in Templeton, come on down to Atascadero Lake Park where you can kick back and enjoy some of the best Bluegrass music around these parts, brought to you by the Printery Foundation. I’ll have more on that event next week.

I hope you’re getting your tickets now for the Atascadero Lakeside Wine Festival “Reserve Experience” on June 22, from 4-8 p.m. at Atascadero Lake Park. The Atascadero Chamber and the Wine Festival Committee are planning a great event this year and you won’t want to miss it! In addition to the opportunity to taste some of the best wines on the Central Coast, you will be able to sample what our cideries, breweries and distilleries have to offer. There will also be a variety of food, along with commercial vendors and artists showing their wares. And, did I mention music? Yes, great live music all evening!

For more information, visit Or contact the Chamber at 805-466-2044.

Be sure to check this issue of the paper for the Memorial Day Services around the North County. We plan to attend the service at the Faces of Freedom Veterans Memorial here in Atascadero at 12 p.m. on Monday, May 27. The beautiful Memorial site is located at Atascadero Lake Park on the corner of Portola and Highway 41. After the service, the Kiwanis Club of Atascadero will be serving a Tri-Tip Sandwich BBQ for purchase — always a nice way to eat lunch and continue to visit with friends and family members. Hope to see you there.

Have a safe weekend.
