New victims identified in Brasuell sexual assault case

In September of 2017 police began investigating a reported sexual assault involving a 16-year-old victim and a 56-year-old male suspect, Jess Drue Brasuell III, an Atascadero resident. Detectives served a search warrant in November of 2017 at Brasuell’s residence on the 7100 block of Sombrilla Avenue in Atascadero.

On Nov. 9 Brasuell was arrested on multiple felony charges and booked in to the San Luis Obispo County Jail. Since the arrest an additional three female minor victims were identified.

Brasuell’s charges now include unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, rape of an intoxicated victim, forcible oral copulation, lewd act with a 14 or 15-year-old child, assault with intent to commit a lewd act, possession of child pornography, and furnishing a controlled substance to a minor.

The investigation is ongoing and Brausell is still in custody at the San Luis Obispo County Jail with his bail set at $200,000.

Sergeant Caleb Davis with the Atascadero Police Department said the reason police are reaching out to the public now is to inform them of what's occurring with the case but also to encourage additional people harmed by Brasuell to speak up.

“If there are any additional victims out there, we would like to encourage them to come forward,” Davis said. “Sometimes this is something that is hard to report for people. If there is more information out there, we would certainly like to know that.”

Anyone with information pertaining to this investigation is encouraged to contact the Atascadero Police Department at (805) 461-5051.
