Norma Thomas passed away peacefully on November 27, 2017 at her home in Atascadero at the age of 90. She was born in Prairie City, Oregon, but raised her family in southern California. She is survived by her children, Linda Sainz, Lisa Phelps (Dennis) and Bill Thomas (Joyce). She also leaves behind five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Norma had a long and distinguished career as an educator in the El Monte City School District. She served as a teacher, administrator and board member. She was known as an outstanding educator and a wonderful human being who had a genuine concern and sensitivity for students, parents and staff. After the loss of her husband, Jim, she moved to Atascadero in 2001 with her daughter Linda Sainz. There she continued to serve the community as a volunteer in the Atascadero Library, the Atascadero Police Department and CRTA. She joined the Alpha Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and was a longtime member of the Newcomers group. She was loved by many for her kindness, generosity of spirit and caring demeanor. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
