Patricia Jo Mandrille-Smith, 82, of Templeton passed away Friday, June 28, at the hospital due to complications of cancer treatment. Her viewing will be at 11 a.m., services at 12 p.m. Saturday, July 6 at the LDS Meeting House located at 2600 Ramona Rd., Atascadero.
Patricia was born, July 25, 1936, in Tulare, Calif., where she was raised on the family dairy in Hanford. In 1952, her family, weary of the mosquitos and valley weather, moved their dairy of Guernsey cows to Templeton which became the Pat-Mar Ranch, named after Patricia and her sister Marie.
She graduated Templeton high school in 1954 followed by business school in Berkeley, Calif. After obtaining her business degree, Patricia gained employment at the Paso Robles Public Schools as an administrative assistant to the district’s superintendent. She remained in this position in what became her career for approximately 40 years.
In January of 1969, Patricia married David L. Smith where two sons followed shortly thereafter. In 1974, David and Patricia built a new home in Templeton where the family raised cattle and dairy goats. Patricia having been raised on a dairy, bred and developed her goats’ pedigrees for a number of years to at one point receive the nation’s top dairy goat production award.
Once Patricia retired from the school district, she pursued her dream of building a new home on what she called her Scenery Hill, where she enjoyed planting and gardening for more than 15 years.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband David. She is survived by her son Steve Smith, his wife Michelle and their children Ashley, Tristan and Alexis; her son Tom and Rene Smith and their children Brooke and Cody Smith; her sister Marie Miller and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
