ATASCADERO — Power went out to many homes and businesses between Templeton and Atascadero on Wednesday, April 14.

The power outage began at 3:53 p.m. and affected approximately 2,990 customers, according to Pacific Gas and Electric’s online power outage map.

According to PG&E, power will be restored by 7:15 p.m. The reason for the outage is under investigation.

A fire was reported in the backyard of a house on Olmeda Avenue by the Atascadero Police Department moments before the outage. It is unclear if the two are related at this time. Olmeda Avenue is closed between Rosario Avenue and Mariquita Avenue. APD is advising the public to take alternate routes.

This outage was not a planned Public Safety Power Shutoff by PG&E.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
