Phillip Clifford Hord, 79, of Mayville, Ore. passed away on May 8, 2018.
He was born in Paso Robles on Oct. 12, 1938 and was the son of the late Clifford T. Hord and Ruth K. Smith Hord.
He attended school in Parkfield, Cholame, and Paso Robles. He was raised as a farmer’s son, so after his U.S. Army commitment he settled in the Creston area to pursue farming. After his retirement he purchased land in Eastern Oregon and lived there for many years. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He raised and trained several German shorthaired pointer bird dogs, and could often be seen with them riding in the back of his pickup. His home was filled with many taxidermied trophies, along with a model train that looped through all its rooms, which usually ran early in the morning to awaken his unsuspecting guests. He was a life member of the NRA and Farm Bureau. He entertained his family and friends, and we all enjoyed his ability to play the piano by ear.
He is survived by his sister Eva Sue Holt from Visalia,, his brother Ken R. Hord from Roy, Mont., three nephews, and two nieces. Phil was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Bert Holt.
At this time there will be no public service.
