Provisions of food for those in need at Santa Rosa Elementary location

Atascadero It doesn’t get much easier than this: Anyone who needs food can show up at Santa Rosa Elementary, on 8655 Santa Rosa Rd., the second Wednesday of every month from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., sign their name and phone number on a sign-up sheet, and walk away with bags of food.
The bags of food, including meat and vegetables, are provided by the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County, and passed out by local Kiwanis Club volunteers.
According to Kathy Peterson, a Kiwanis volunteer, her club is hoping more people find out about their food program. She said she’s seeing about 20 people showing up at the Santa Rosa parking lot each week, but they have plenty of food for more – an entire truck load of food.
The Food Bank also distributes pantry food and fresh produce at two other Atascadero locations: on the first Wednesday of the month at the Atascadero Grange Hall on 5035 Palma Ave. from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and on the third Wednesday of the month at the Casa Grande Apartments on 9300 El Bordo Ave. from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
The Food Bank website states that no ID or proof of income is required to receive the bags of food, however they ask that participants meet the USDA guidelines (for example maximum monthly household income for one is $1,507.50; for a family of five it is $3,597.50) (http://www.slofoodbank.org/uploads/2017%20Income%20Guidelines--English2.pdf) by signing in.
