Ron Flaharty of Yerington, Nev., passed away on July 15, 2019, peacefully at home with family. He was 74 years old, born in Long Beach, Calif., to Charles and Neva Flaharty on Aug. 30, 1944. Ron was the kindest man and would instantly be a friend from the moment you met him. When you crossed paths he would greet you with a smile. He left us way too early and will be missed by all. He was always proud of his family and their accomplishments.
Ron started working in the grocery business in 1963 at Beaches Grocery store, then after moving his family to Atascadero, he worked for Safeway, Scolari’s, and Williams Bros. He retired from Scolari’s in Yerington, Nev., in 1996. He also opened his own business known to many as “Flaharty’s Corner” in Atascadero, which was a gas station, mini-market and feed store, which he said, “were the best working years of my life”. It was the only place in town you could fill up your gas tank, get your windshield washed, get a gallon of milk and some feed or hay for your livestock.
Ron was preceded in death by his son Ron Jr. and his parents Charles and Neva Flaharty. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Mary Jane of 57 years. He is also survived by his children Lori Gabaldon (Ray), Chad Flaharty (Gina) and Shawn Flaharty (Bobbie), plus 11 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild on the way.
A graveside service will be held Sept. 1 at Hillcrest Cemetery, in Smith Valley, Nev., at 10:30 a.m. and immediately following a BBQ/Potluck at Mountain View Park in Yerington, Nev.
