ATASCADERO—Bring out your family and kids this Saturday to A-Town Park, located at 5493 Traffic Way, for the annual Scooter Jam competition. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity for your kids to see professional athletes battle it out on scooters of all shapes and sizes.
The event begins at 11 a.m., but the doors open at 9:30 a.m. If you, or someone you know would like to enter the competition, it’s not too late! There will still be sign-ups the morning of the event, just arrive early. Scoot Jam is a PRO AM competition, there will be groups of competitors from ages eight and under, all the way up to the professional competition.
“The competition really draws athletes from all over," A-Town Park manager Kevin Campion said. "We will have people coming from as far north as Sacramento all the way to Las Vegas. It's a lot of fun and pretty much every sponsor in the sport will be there giving free stuff away. It’s great to expose the community to scootering because it is such a family positive experience and also it’s a much different type of ride that’s much more aligned with BMX.”
The Atascadero skate park is tucked behind the softball fields on Traffic Way and its distance from the main road hides the amount of space that is back there. The park boast an amazing 20,000 square-feet of riding surface, with options available for both indoor and outdoor riding. The skate park allows skateboards, scooters, rollerblades and BMX bikes all to ride, and gear can be rented from the park.
This Saturday the building will be full of sponsors from all the biggest brands ready to give away swag to all the excited wide-eyed youngsters in attendance. The competition is aimed toward the local community, and even has a local star as the master of ceremonies this year.
“We’re hoping Chris Farris is able to make it this year, he is a local kid and I think he might be ranked in the top 10 in the world, at least unofficially," Campion said. "He has been training with the Nitro Circus guys recently and we really hope he can make it this year and be our MC.”
If Nitro Cirus is any indicator of how crazy this competition is going to get, then there will be lots of flips in all directions, and at least one trick that will leave your jaw on the ground.
The fifth installment of the Scoot Jam will take place this Saturday, April 29 at 11 a.m. If you have any questions or want to stay up-to-date with happenings at the skate park, be sure to follow A-Town Park on Facebook.
