Templeton FFA Tractor Pull is Oct. 6

Tractors of all shapes and sizes will rev their engines and roar down the track Oct. 6 at the second annual Templeton FFA Tractor Pull at Chesebrough Farm.

After the success of their first tractor pull, Templeton FFA knew they had to bring it back this year. It turned out to be the largest fundraiser of the year for the chapter.

‘It’s our biggest one of the year,” said Templeton FFA officer Ashley Hurdle. “The money helps us go to competitions, sponsors jackets, field trips — it really helps our chapter.”

More than 1,000 people watched from the stands as 100 competitors raced down the track during last year’s tractor pull.

Hurdle said they have received more interest from competitors and expect more people to attend this year.

Templeton Agriculture Department Chair Chris Hildebrand said they have expanded their seating.

“Cal Poly donated some bleachers,” Hildebrand said. “We will have close to 3,000 capacity seating.”

Competitors, many returning for year two, are coming from all over the state, mostly the Central Valley, and some from the Central Coast.

“They said it was probably their favorite event because of the track, the location and the things to do,” Hildebrand said. “And they said it was well run.”

During the event, trucks and tractors pull a weighted sled down a dirt track. The weight moves toward the front of the sled as the vehicle pulls it down the track, making it more difficult to pull. Trucks and tractors are divided into weight classes.

Templeton expects to have four to five divisions with the winners receiving plaques.

Gates open at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 6, with the pull starting at 2 p.m. and going until 6 p.m.

Tickets are being pre-sold for $10 or people can pay at the gate the day of the event. Tri-tip sandwiches, rootbeer floats and “lots of other good stuff” will also be available, organizers said.

All of the proceeds go to the Templeton FFA program.

“We were all pretty amazed at what showed up last year,” Hildebrand said. “People will also be able to walk around and also check the tractors out.”

Chesebrough Farm is located at 790 Moss Lane in Templeton.
