ATASCADERO — A suspect who was caught stealing a generator from a local business last week has been arrested in Santa Maria.
Rogelio Hinojosa, 30, of Santa Maria, walked into Glenn’s Repair and Rental on El Camino Real last week and walked out of the store with a generator worth more than $950 without paying.
Geoff Auslen, owner of Glenn’s Repair and Rental, witness Hinojosa picking up a generator and loading it into his car and called 911 to report the theft as the suspect drove away.
After posting photos, of Hinojosa taking the generator. Auslen was also contacted by another small business from the Santa Maria Area that they also had the same suspect steal from them. Santa Maria Police also contacted Atascadero Police after seeing the online posts.
On May 6, Hinojosa, was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail at their Southern Branch after being arrested earlier in the day by Santa Maria Police Department for an out-of-county warrant, violation of probation for domestic violence and a new charge for probation violation with evading a police office for public safety. Hinojosa is being held without bail and is due in court May 16 according to Kelly Hoover, Public Information Officer with Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department.
