AVILA BEACH — Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s (PG&E) Diablo Canyon Power Plant Unit 2 returned to service and is now operating at 100 percent power.
The unit had been shut down since Dec. 1, when a grid monitoring protective feature detected a lower than normal current on the transmission lines. Upon sensing the operation of the grid protective feature on Dec. 1, Unit 2 performed as designed and automatically went offline to protect equipment and plant operators responded and conducted an investigation and testing.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and appropriate local and state officials were notified by PG&E of the shutdown.
Unit 1 is currently operating at 55 percent power due to maintenance activities.
