ATASCADERO  There’s a lot going on in North County this holiday season. Both Paso Robles and Atascadero have their fair share of parades, lighting ceremonies, visiting Santas, and holiday craft shows. Include events happening in nearby Morro Bay and Cambria, and there’s something to do nearly every day starting in November.

Have you ever participated in a Santa Crawl? This year, you can join hundreds of Santas jogging or walking from place to place in Morro Bay, trying a variety of beers and wines along the waterfront on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Did you miss last year’s Cambria Christmas Market? Tickets frequently sell out, so it’s best to order sooner than later! The market opens Friday, Nov. 23, and runs through Christmas Eve.

Looking for something a little closer to home? Paso Robles will kick off their annual holiday celebrations starting with Elegant Evenings Saturday, Nov. 10, followed by the Holiday Craft Bazaar and the arrival of Mrs. Claus at the 31st annual Downtown Lighting Ceremony Friday, Nov. 23.

If you’re in Atascadero, check out their Light Up The Downtown Holiday Celebration Saturday, Dec.1, followed by the famous Winter Wonderland snowy playground for kids, and kids at heart, Friday, Dec. 7.

There are many more local events happening this year, it’s hard to keep track of them all! That’s why this year, the Atascadero News and Paso Robles Press created a special section on our website especially devoted to housing information on every local holiday event we could find. We want to help make it possible for every family in the North County to go and experience the joy of the holiday season by providing one digital site to keep track of it all.

The section is also geared toward local features from our contributors — full of recipes and tips on how to have a successful and fun holiday season, as well as providing a place for local merchants to share their story, and talk about the business and the services they offer.

We believe in local business and shopping small, which is why we are offering this space, along with our Shop Small Saturday section in the newspaper (look for it Nov. 23) as a helpful reminder to shop local this year! We believe shopping local is important because small businesses give more back to the community, create more jobs, and help the local economy. They also provide a sense of community while delivering better customer service and a larger variety of products. So show them support on Shop Small Saturday, Nov. 23.

Also, keep a lookout for our annual Holiday Gift Guide, which begins today, Oct. 26 and runs through Dec. 14. These will help with local holiday shopping and will feature local businesses and showcase their products and promotions.

The holidays in North County truly are the most wonderful time of the year. We hope we can make this season a little more enjoyable! For more information about local holiday events, or to hear what our local contributors have to say about the holidays, visit and and look for the Holiday Gifts and Lifestyle section at the top of the page and on the sidebar.
