William Howard McNamara Jr., of Atascadero, 89, passed away peacefully in his home Saturday, Nov. 17.
Bill was one of eight children, he was born in Kansas City, Kan., and moved to California with his parents in the 1930s. Bill Graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1947 and went to Minnesota Bible College in Minneapolis, Minn.
He moved back to his hometown, Rialto, Calif. and became a Journeyman Electrician. In 1957 he and his young family moved to Atascadero, where he received his contractor’s license and opened McNamara Electric, which he and his brother operated for nearly four decades. Bill was one of the founding board members of Atascadero Christian Community, which is still in operation.
William is survived by his wife Patricia, his five children; Paula Bywater, Diana Sommers, her husband Frank, William McNamara III his wife Nancy, Pamela Vert, her husband Donald, David McNamara, his wife Shelly, and their mother Shirley; Patricia’s two son’s, Dal Caudill Jr., his wife Lynn, David Caudill and his wife Liliya; his brother Thomas McNamara; his sisters Margret Gard–Smith and Joyce Crumpacker; a lot of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a whole bunch of “yard birds” as he affectionately called anyone he liked.
A viewing will take place at Chapel of the Roses on Thursday, Dec. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held Friday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at Atascadero District Cemetery with a reception following at the Atascadero Grange Hall at 5035 Palma.
