The fourth annual Atascadero K9 Wine & Dine will take place April 21 at the Atascadero Elks’ Lodge, 1516 EL Camino Real from 4 to 8 p.m. The spaghetti dinner fundraiser benefits the Atascadero Police Department K9 program.
“The Atascadero K9 program is completely funded by donations from the community and this is one of our major event of the year,” said Sgt. Caleb Davis with the Atascadero Police Department. “We have partnered with the Elks and Kiwanis for several years to make this event possible.”
The Atascadero K9 program currently has two K9 officers, both German Shepherds that came all the way from Germany and were trained at the Inglis Police Academy in Oxnard. K9 Officer Pit with his handler officer Chris Hester and K9 officer Luke and his handler Officer Chris Hall will be at the event to meet the public and perform demonstrations every half hour. Live demonstrations at the event will include tactical obedience, narcotics detection
“Both of our dogs are relatively young dogs and we should have them for a long time,” said Davis. With this current funding period, the Atascadero Police K9 Foundation is raising money to put into their account to be prepared.
“Unlike previous years, when it does come time to purchase a new dog, it’s going to be two new dogs and it’s going to be very expensive,” Davis said. “So we’re trying to get ahead of that by continuing to do our fundraising throughout the year and then when the time comes we would be ready and able to purchase two new dogs.”
Dinner is served throughout the four hours of the event and refreshments are included. The Elks will have beer and wine available for purchase. Tickets for the dinner are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under and “to-go” meals are also available.
Tickets are available for purchase at the Atascadero Police Department, 5505 El Camino Real, at Glenn’s Repair & Rental, 5025 El Camino Real, at the Elks Lodge, Napa Auto Parts, 7475 El Camino Real and at the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce at 6904 El Camino Real.
