SAN LUIS OBISPO — A San Luis Obispo woman is behind bars today following the alleged attempted murder of a 55-year-old resident of Atascadero.

At approximately 11:04 a.m. Saturday the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's office received several calls regarding a man bleeding from the neck at the trailhead of the Bishop Peak trail on Foothill Blvd. in San Luis Obispo. Responding deputies found the man with large lacerations across his neck. The man told witnesses at the scene that his girlfriend had cut his throat.

The man was transported to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released later that evening.

As police began conducting a search for the suspect, they received several calls from witnesses who said they saw the suspect running away from the scene into a nearby neighborhood on Cerro Romaldo Avenue. Officers were able to locate the woman hiding in some bushes and she was positively identified as the suspect, 40-year-old San Luis Obispo resident Erika Christian Deherrera.

Deherrera was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail and was charged with attempted murder. The investigation is ongoing and police didn't provide any further details.
