Women’s Wall of Fame nominees recognized

4 from North County honored at luncheon

PASO ROBLES — The fourth annual Women’s Wall of Fame Luncheon, being held tomorrow, March 11, at the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, will recognize the achievements of 15 different women from all across San Luis Obispo County — including four in the North County area.

The nominees are women from all different walks of life who, through countless efforts and volunteer involvement, are being celebrated for their constant dedication to and appreciation of the surrounding Central Coast community.

An expansion of the annual County of San Luis Obispo Commission on the Status of Women – “Woman of the Year Award,” the Women’s Wall of Fame recognition observes outstanding women for their yearlong contributions.

This year’s event honorees, who are selected by a panel of commissioners from outside the county, will be judged in three categories: business, service and volunteer involvement. Three of the nominees will named to the Wall of Fame at the luncheon.

The following North County women will receive recognition:

• Candace Gammons, of Paso Robles, works as a bank branch manager while simultaneously volunteering for the community and attending college;

• Maria Garcia, of Paso Robles, helped found and is the current president of the local Hispanic Business Association organization;

• Sue Benitez, of Paso Robles, is heavily involved with the Paso Robles Library, Friends of the Library, County Grand Jury, Traditions Home Owners Association, SESLEC Supervisory Committee and the Paso Robles Youth Arts Foundation; and

• Shirley Summers, of Atascadero, is a licensed clinical social worker and has a lifelong commitment to volunteerism and community building.

Coincidentally, this luncheon corresponds accordingly calendar-wise with Women’s History Month. All month long throughout the month of March women’s activists, on both national and local levels, collaborate together to recognize, honor, celebrate and support the achievements of women all across the country.

Photos of the top three nominees will be placed on the Women’s Wall of Fame in the County Government Building, and their names and recipient year will also be permanently inscribed onto a plaque.

Tickets, which cost $35 each, can be purchased by visiting slowomen.org.
