The Lockdown started around 12:40 p.m.
ATASCADERO — On Wednesday, Aug 31, around 12:40 p.m., at the request of the Atascadero Police Department, Atascadero High School, Atascadero Middle School, the District Office, and The Fine Arts Academy went into Lockdown.
APD released an advisory to avoid both sides of Hwy 101 north of Curbaril Ave., south of Capistrano Ave. and San Marcos Rd., east of Traffic Way and west of Atascadero Ave.
According to police scanners a gunshot was heard near the Lewis Street bridge. APD has launched two drones to survey the area. You can keep up to date with the road closures here.
“Students and staff are remaining indoors, and at this time, there are no immediate threats on our campuses. We will continue to coordinate with the Atascadero Police Department out of an abundance of caution,” said Executive Assistant to Superintendent Stacey Phillips. “We are unable to release students at this time until the Lockdown is lifted.”
APD released in their advisory that “two students at North County Christian witnessed a male behind the school with a rifle in the riverbed. Schools on lockdown are North County Christian, AHS and AMS. Resources are in place to sweep the Riverbed.”
