Atascadero announces road closures for Cruisin’ Weekend

ATASCADERO — The City of Atascadero has announced street closures and traffic rules for its 2026 Cruisin’ Weekend, which begins Friday, Aug. 21, with the 33rd annual Hot El Camino Cruise Nite and continues Saturday, Aug. 22, with Dancing in the Streets.

Hot El Camino Cruise Nite will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday along a new closed cruise route on El Camino Real between San Jacinto Avenue and Highway 41/Morro Road. Hard road closures will begin at 5:30 p.m., with no parking beginning earlier.

El Camino Real from Highway 41 to San Jacinto Avenue, West Mall from Palma Avenue to El Camino Real, and Traffic Way from Palma Avenue to El Camino Real will be closed. Additional soft closures and staging areas will be in place around West Mall, Palma Avenue, Entrada and Olmeda Avenue.

Designated pedestrian crossings will be located at Huckleberry’s, East Mall and Traffic Way. The Tesla charging station at Mechanics Bank will also be closed during the event.

Officials remind Cruise Nite participants to follow directions from police and event staff. Tire spinning, excessive vehicle noise, speed contests, throwing objects from vehicles and unauthorized U-turns are prohibited. Headlights must remain on, and trailers and motorcycles are not permitted.

Violations may result in removal from the cruise route, citations, towing, vehicle impoundment or arrest. Cruise Nite passes are sold out.

On Saturday, Aug. 22, Dancing in the Streets will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. in downtown Atascadero, featuring live entertainment, four bands and food and beverage vendors.

Street closures for Saturday will begin at 12:30 p.m. and continue until midnight. West Mall and East Mall will be closed between El Camino Real and Lewis Avenue, while Palma Avenue will be closed between East Mall and the alley behind Amsterdam Coffee House. No parking will be permitted along El Camino Real between East Mall and West Mall near Sunken Gardens.
