Chipping Program returns to Atascadero; Registration now open

ATASCADERO — Residents within Atascadero’s Wildland Urban Interface are invited to sign up for this year’s chipping program, funded through a grant awarded to Atascadero Fire & Emergency Services by the San Luis Obispo County Fire Safe Council.

The hazardous fuel reduction program helps property owners dispose of vegetation and reduce wildfire risk. Chipping services will be available to eligible properties within city limits beginning March 26. Registration is now open.

All materials must be piled near a road or driveway and easily accessible. Branches should be stacked with cut ends facing the same direction. Branches may be up to 5 inches in diameter and no longer than 15 feet. Piles must be free of household trash, processed lumber, poison oak, oleander, and vine-type vegetation, which can jam equipment.
