Felon charged after authorities seize 100+ firearms and meth in Morro Bay area search

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY — Prosecutors have filed felony charges against a Morro Bay area man after law enforcement reportedly seized more than 100 firearms, ammunition, and methamphetamine during a March 12 search warrant operation.

Jacob Cole Clopton has been charged in San Luis Obispo County Superior Court with seven felony counts, including possession of a controlled substance while armed, five counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person.

According to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office, the search was conducted at a residence on Little Morro Creek Road in the Morro Bay area by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators reported seizing approximately 107 firearms, including rifles, shotguns, and pistols, along with ammunition, firearm components, and methamphetamine.

The complaint also alleges a prior serious or violent felony conviction and additional prior offenses in San Luis Obispo County and Texas.

District Attorney Dan Dow announced the charges and said the case remains under prosecution. Authorities emphasized that the filing is a criminal complaint, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
