Fire destroys home on Castano Avenue in Atascadero

ATASCADERO — Four residents were displaced after a single-family home was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon on Castano Avenue.

At approximately 4:46 p.m. Aug. 9, multiple people reported a residential structure fire at 7580 Castano Ave. The first arriving firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames, with heavy fire spreading into vegetation behind the residence.

Firefighters attacked both the structure and surrounding vegetation, successfully stopping the flames before they could spread to neighboring homes.

Crews from Atascadero State Hospital Fire, Templeton Fire, San Luis Obispo County Fire and Paso Robles Fire assisted with firefighting operations. A total of 18 personnel responded to the incident.

Because of the extent of damage to the structure, firefighters were unable to safely enter the home until the fire had been knocked down.

The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes.

No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.

Fire officials identified the front porch as the area where the fire originated. The cause remains under investigation.
