Former probation officer sentenced in $169,000 embezzlement case

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY — A former county deputy probation officer has been sentenced to felony probation and county jail time after admitting to embezzling more than $169,000 from a law enforcement employee association.

Fallyn Sierra Rollins, 32, was sentenced June 2 after pleading no contest to nine felony counts of grand theft related to her role as treasurer of the San Luis Obispo County Probation Peace Officers’ Association.

Prosecutors said Rollins used her access to the organization’s financial accounts between February 2023 and August 2024 to repeatedly divert funds for personal use, allowing the thefts to go undetected for more than a year. The nonprofit provides training, legal assistance, and other benefits to probation department employees.

The thefts were discovered after association leaders identified discrepancies and reported them to law enforcement, triggering an investigation involving both the San Luis Obispo Police Department and county probation officials.

Court records show Rollins admitted to stealing a total of $169,874.95 and had already paid full restitution. She received a sentence of two years of felony probation and 270 days in county jail. She could have faced a state prison term of up to eight years and four months if she violates probation.

“Embezzlement from your fellow members of a nonprofit organization is a tremendous betrayal of trust, and even more so when you are a member of a law enforcement agency,” Dow said in a statement. “We are disappointed with this relatively light sentence, but we respect the Judge’s independence and authority to do so.”

If Rollins violates the terms of her probation, she could face up to eight years and four months in state prison.
