Atascadero improves ISO Public Protection Classification to Class 2

ATASCADERO — The City of Atascadero announced that its Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating will improve from Class 03/3X to Class 02/2X, effective May 1. The upgrade reflects the city’s continued commitment to fire protection and community risk reduction.

The ISO PPC program evaluates structural fire suppression capabilities nationwide, with ratings ranging from Class 1 (exemplary) to Class 10 (minimum standard). The rating influences property insurance premiums and signals the effectiveness of local fire services.

The improved classification recognizes enhancements in emergency communications, fire department capabilities, water supply infrastructure, and community risk reduction programs.

"This achievement reflects years of hard work and collaboration between our fire department, city leadership, and community partners," said Fire Chief Casey Bryson. "Moving from a Class 3 to a Class 2 rating not only demonstrates our commitment to public safety but also provides potential insurance savings for residents and businesses."

Jim Lewis added that the rating improvement is “a win for public safety and a win for our residents.” Property owners are encouraged to contact their insurance providers to learn how the new classification may impact premiums.
