Atascadero reminds residents all fireworks are prohibited within city limits

ATASCADERO — As Independence Day approaches, the City of Atascadero and the Atascadero Police Department are reminding residents that the use of all fireworks, including those labeled "Safe & Sane," is prohibited within city limits.
While California law allows the sale and use of Safe & Sane fireworks in some communities, officials emphasized they may not be ignited, discharged or used anywhere in Atascadero. Residents may legally possess Safe & Sane fireworks purchased in jurisdictions where they are sold, but using them within the city remains illegal.
City officials cited Atascadero's high wildfire risk due to dry vegetation, warm temperatures and seasonal weather conditions, noting that a single spark can quickly ignite a vegetation fire and threaten homes, businesses, residents and first responders.
The city also reminded residents that its Illegal Fireworks Social Host Accountability Ordinance allows officials to hold property owners and others responsible for hosting, possessing or allowing the use of illegal fireworks. Violators may face penalties and be required to reimburse the city for emergency response costs.
Residents are encouraged to attend professional fireworks displays in neighboring communities and celebrate the holiday safely.
