UPDATE: Lockdown lifted after Monterey Elementary on lockdown after possible firearm sighting

UPDATE (10 a.m.): The lockdown at Monterey Elementary School has been lifted.

After an extensive search on both the ground and air, no suspect or firearm has been located. While the lockdown has been lifeted and normal school activities are resuming, officers will remain in the area as a precautionary measure.

ORIGINAL STORY:

ATASCADERO — Monterey Elementary School went on lockdown Monday morning, March 2, after a student reported seeing an individual who may have been in possession of a firearm on or near school property at 3355 Monterey Road.

According to a press release from the City of Atascadero, at approximately 8:15 a.m., Atascadero Police Department officers responded, secured the campus, and confirmed no unauthorized persons were present. The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with aerial searches of nearby neighborhoods and open spaces.

No firearm has been observed, no suspect has been located, and no injuries have been reported. Authorities continue to investigate the area as a precaution.
