ATASCADERO — Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2814 will take part in a Highway 41 cleanup on Saturday, May 2, as part of the fifth annual VFW Day of Service.
The cleanup will begin at 11:30 a.m., with volunteers meeting at 9555 Morro Road. The effort is part of the post’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the stretch of Highway 41 it has adopted, while also contributing to a broader, veteran-led initiative focused on community service.
The VFW Day of Service, launched in 2022, brings together veterans across the country and around the world to lead projects aimed at strengthening local communities. Last year, more than 2,300 service events were held globally, and participation is expected to grow in 2026.
Organizers say the day highlights the continued commitment of veterans to serve beyond their military careers. Projects range from neighborhood cleanups and food drives to mentorship programs and community outreach efforts.
All veterans are encouraged to participate in Day of Service events throughout May, continuing a tradition of service that extends well beyond time in uniform.
