SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY — Approximately 30,000 new baby items will be distributed to families throughout San Luis Obispo County through a partnership between the Adventist Health Central Coast Foundation and Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County.
The items were donated by R&C Brown Associates and transported from Santa Clara County to San Luis Obispo County with support from Central Coast Moving Company.
The large-scale distribution brought together nonprofit organizations and public agencies serving families throughout the county. Participating organizations included CASA of San Luis Obispo County, Lumina Alliance, Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County, The Link Family Resource Center, Pregnancy & Parenting Support of San Luis Obispo County, First 5 San Luis Obispo County, Transitions-Mental Health Association, Mixteco/Indígena Community Organizing Project, the San Luis Obispo County Department of Public Health and others.
The effort began when R&C Brown Associates donated an inventory of new baby products to Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County. After distributing items throughout Santa Clara County, Catholic Charities invited the Adventist Health Central Coast Foundation to help extend the donation to families on the Central Coast.
Central Coast Moving Company transported the approximately 30,000 items to San Luis Obispo County. The products were then distributed to community partners at Adventist Health Twin Cities, where agencies selected items based on the needs of the families they serve.
“This is a wonderful example of what can happen when organizations look beyond their individual walls and work together for families,” said Meghan Shoven, Director of the Adventist Health Central Coast Foundation. “We are incredibly grateful to R&C Brown Associates for the generosity that made this possible, to Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County for inviting us into this effort, and to our local partners who will put these resources directly into the hands of families who can use them most.”
All participating organizations committed to distributing the donated items at no cost to local families. The products will help agencies support parents experiencing financial hardship, housing instability, domestic violence, foster care involvement and other challenging circumstances.
“Strong communities are built through partnership,” Shoven said. “Our role at Adventist Health Central Coast Foundation extends beyond the walls of our hospitals. We want to be a convener and a partner, connecting generosity with local needs and working alongside organizations that share our commitment to helping Central Coast families thrive.”
