El Camino Real South Resurfacing Project Complete

The project covered 1.3 miles of El Camino Real from El Bordo Avenue to Santa Barbara Road

ATASCADERO — The City of Atascadero recently completed the El Camino Real South Resurfacing Project and celebrated its completion with an official ribbon cutting with the City Council.

The El Camino Real South Resurfacing Project included multiple pavement treatment methods to rehabilitate approximately 1.3 miles of El Camino Real from El Bordo Avenue to Santa Barbara Road. Over the past several decades, roadway improvements and fixes associated with an assortment of small projects resulted in a patchwork of pavement conditions through this corridor. The engineering design team (Eikhof Design Group and sub-consultant Pavement Engineering, Inc.) worked closely with Public Works staff to evaluate multiple rehabilitation and resurfacing options and provide a comprehensive and cost-effective rehabilitation project. Pavement treatments on this project included full-depth asphalt replacement (variable depth), asphalt overlay, and micro surfacing treatment. The city’s contractor, Papich Construction, completed the project on time and within budget. Funds for this project came from Senate Bill 1 (SB1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
